MUSICAL THEATRE

The Musical Theatre Program is a prestigious training and production initiative dedicated to empowering both youth and adults who possess a profound commitment to the performing arts.

It serves as a vital platform for experienced immigrant artists, recognizing and utilizing the extensive artistic expertise and cultural heritage they bring from their countries of origin, ensuring the continuity of their professional practice.

Aspiring and seasoned performers alike immerse themselves in the creation of an original, full-scale production annually. This intensive process is structured to cultivate and refine participants’ acting, vocal, and movement proficiencies under the direct mentorship of established international artists. Participants engage in a rigorous, collaborative creative methodology that thoughtfully integrates traditional influences with contemporary storytelling narratives, fostering an environment where high-level artistic growth is intrinsically linked with cultural expression.

Focused on collective learning and rigorous professional development, the program offers a unique opportunity for participants to enhance their professional confidence and mastery of their craft. Ultimately, this initiative is committed to cultivating a new cohort of versatile, highly trained performers prepared to enrich the diverse and evolving artistic ecosystem within Canada.

THE BEAT OF CHANGE

The Beat of Change is a yearly festival an inaugural theatrical production for the Sihle-Sizwe Foundation, presenting a powerful, interdisciplinary fusion of music, movement, poetry, and storytelling rooted in African culture.

This unique production centered on the marimba, utilizing the instrument as a central heartbeat to illustrate the theme of diverse cultures achieving harmony. By celebrating Black and newcomer voices and cultural heritage through a contemporary, multidisciplinary lens, the project provided a vital stage for African artists to shine and share their lived experiences of migration, resilience, belonging, and transformation on the prairies.

The show plays to sold-out audiences, sparking meaningful community conversations about identity, healing, and personal growth. Successful performances have been held at the Arden Theatre in St. Albert and the Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre in Edmonton.
